Children’s Songs are Weird

“Daddy finger daddy finger where are you
Here I am here I am how do you do”

Children’s songs are weird. I’m 90% sure no one wants to know where daddy’s finger is. Regardless, Asha’s adorableness remains unmatched. She loves to sing along to songs and do the dances, or she’ll act out the scenes along with the characters in shows and shout out the dialogue. The girl is too much. The cutest and sweetest entertainment 24-7. I love her to pieces, even when she’s being annoying and difficult.

WHAT ASHA DOES WHEN SHE ENCOUNTERS A VEGETABLE

I can’t for the life of me convince this girl to eat healthy. She’ll only eat pizza crust, Mac n Cheese, instant noodles, steamed buns, dumplings, and ice cream. Dylan’s mom calls this the white mush diet. Asha rejects everything else wholesale. I got the bright idea to stir steamed spinach into her Mac n Cheese and this trick worked for two bites, but by the third bite, she was on to me. She chewed very skeptically and then methodically pulled the green bits out from her mouth. She handed the offending bits to me, as if to say, “Not on my watch, bitch” or “Pardon me, madam, but I do believe this bullshit is yours.”

Everybody Wants

Yesterday Asha ran freely on sidewalks discovering the neighbourhood and had a wonderful time. Then she found a rain puddle and ran through it splashing and jumping and executing many swift small steps. She was transfixed. She kept this up for a while until I had to stop her as she wasn’t wearing rain boots and I didn’t want her feet to get drenched. Asha would’ve played in that puddle all day if I had let her. She is a water child, Asha loves the rain, she runs and skips and smiles and squeals, it doesn’t bother her at all. The rain makes her happy. Looks like we moved to the right city. When they said it rains a lot in Vancouver they weren’t kidding. But we can’t have all this lush greenery without it, all these tall trees, perfect hedges, mineral-rich soil and flowers. Sunny days are much more appreciated when they come. Even if all this rain is a bit gloomy and a little sad, it’s a necessary tradeoff, for everybody wants happiness, no one wants pain, but you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.
